Brit buys majority stake in Benicassim
Posted: 21 Mar '06, 11:09
One-time Mean Fiddler main man Vince Power - who sold his company to Clear Channel last year - has purchased a majority stake in Spain's Benicassim Festival. He's called the three-day event "Reading Festival but with sunshine".
Power's unable to own or run any festival in the UK for another three years, as per the conditions of him selling Mean Fiddler, which is why he's gone overseas to invest in such events. He was interviewed in The Telegraph:
"The festival market in the UK is saturated anyway. In the summertime there are two festivals every month."
Power also has plans to become involved with events in Poland and Hungary. This year's Benicassim Festival runs from July 20th 'til the 23rd, and the line-up features Babyshambles, Coldcut, Depeche Mode, Franz Ferdinand, The Futureheads, The Pixies and The Strokes. We are reaching Festival overload again aren't we
remember what happened in the late 1990s? I suppose it hasn't peaked yet, but beware!

Vince Power
Is more of a scumbag than i realised.
Maybe not.
Selling to Clear Channel though... dude!
-
hmmm
he is right, there are sooo many summer festivals now. it used to be good just going to one. now there is like one in brum.
honestly, a music festival, in birmingham. i live there and i cant see why.
-
brum...festival?
where? when? who?
-
are you talking about Supersonic?
that's a fantastic festival. I wish it wasn't the same weekend as Truck, otherwise I'd be there again. You can hardly count it adding to the overload of festivals - it's not camping or anything, and it'll be acts that aren't playing anywhere else.
-
there's another one in may
with Graham Coxon and some people... would have run it as news but it looked DULL.
-
yeah
mike that be the one. it does look dull as fuck. yawn.
it's in a new park in a council estate. pure birmingham!!
-
-
surely not
i hadn't thought of Supersonic as a festival, but you couldn't possibly be complaining that something like it can happen in brum? surely rejoice instead.
and at least you don't have to pitch your tent under spaghetti junction.

This is the man who gave us the SHITTEST festival currently in the UK(certainly in terms of facilities, acts, price..hang on all of it!). Isnt anyone worried he'll screw one of the best festivals in europe?
Eurgh, mean fiddler. Eurgh clear media.
DIRTY.
-
i so want to go...
to bennicassim, but 99% of my mates are poor students who want to go, but don't want to pay... too many festivals = bad, plus side - summer sundae in my home town = pretty good!
-
Vince Power is....
Irish. Change that 'Brit' to 'Paddy'.
